Choosing Your Weapon
By: Foghladha
Welcome to Rock, Paper, Scissors Warfare
Conqueror's Blade is a massive rock-paper-scissors battle. A weapon will have strengths vs. certain other weapons, and it will have weaknesses to others. The key is to find the players wielding the weapon that you're strongest against while avoiding weapons that are designed to kill you.
When learning to play a specific weapon class, you must also learn its strengths and weaknesses. For example, if you are a Polearm player, you would be wise to seek out Mauls, Dual Blades, or Glaive players. You would be ill-advised to try to take on a Short Bow, Pike, or Musket Player. While you are the natural predator of the Dual Blade, Maul, and Glaive, you are also the food for a Short Bow, Pike, or Musket. You have a distinct advantage over some, while a weakness to others. Every weapon in the game shares this Yin and Yang approach and can be defeated by another weapon. It is critical that you learn this quickly and avoid confronting a class your weapon is not meant to win against.
The same is true for units. Every unit is strong vs. their optimal enemy yet weak against their strongest opponent. For example, Onna-Musha are strong against Berserkers, but they are weak against Symmachean Stalwarts. Berserkers are great against most melee units, but are weak against Imperial Pike Guards' Advance ability. Every unit has a strength and a weakness. This is one of the reasons I love this game. Every time you or your unit is defeated, make sure to pay attention to what killed them. This will help you identify what units you should target or stay away from.
Your First Steps
Starting the game off, you will usually be given the Longsword and Shield as your starting weapons. In Conqueror's Blade, you can master all base weapons and unlock several others like the Maul, Chain Dart & Scimitar, Pike, Spear and Shield, and Bastard Sword. Each year, a new weapon is introduced, typically in the final season of the year.
While you may be tempted to switch from the Longsword & Shield, I'd advise you to focus on that while you are unlocking units. There will be people who tell you that Longsword and Shield are defensive weapons and can't kill. Well, that is entirely false. See this example of my character MaeveWithersbane, in the level 50 sieges.
Longsword and Shield is a great weapon to learn Conqueror's Blade with. It has a lot of versatility and is the only weapon class that can heal units.

This build will give you the strength you need to kill and the toughness and armour to survive. As you unlock runes and craft armor, you can push these numbers even higher.
The skills I recommend using are:
-
With Valour: provides a knockdown
-
Counterattack: provides knockdown mitigation
-
Mercy of Heaven: provides AoE Healing to Players and Units.
-
Clash of Shields: provides disruption and extra defense boost while knocking units and heroes down. Also gains CC immunity when wearing the Knight's Armor set.
-
Notes:
-
Don't forget the dismount ability, which can be used every 15 seconds for an extra AoE knockdown.
-
Progression Recommendation: Focus on Mercy of Heaven first, then With Valour, then Counterattack, then Clash of Shields.
Once you max the skill tree for the above skills for Longsword and Shield, it's time to move on to your next weapon. As a heavy armor class, you can swap between Poleaxe, Shortsword & Shield, Glaive, Maul, and Bastard Sword without changing your armor, allowing for in-battle hot swapping.
If you choose Dual Blades, Shortbow, Longbow, or Chaindart & Scimitar, you'll need a Light Armor set. For Musket, Spear, Nodachi, Pike, and Spear & Shield, you'll need a Medium Armor set.
