Death & Sacrifice

Some shotcallers will highly debate this topic and will likely disagree with my perspective. I welcome them to add their own idea and strategies below.

In Siege Battle, I aim to teach my squires to avoid death in most situations. If I can get my squires to end the fight with zero deaths, I'm happy. Before you flip the table, hear me out.

Dying in a siege requires 20-60 seconds before you can respawn, based on how far the match has progressed. Then it will take you 30-60 seconds to get your unit back to the front lines. Many times, there will be spawn campers and distractionary forces to keep you away from resupplying your team's front lines.

Knowing when to pull out is critical. Bloodlust and greed can often lead to premature death and provide your team with a hero and unit deficit. Pulling out, healing, and pulling a new unit at a nearby supply point can keep the pressure and not give the enemy team time to rest and repair their ranks.

Sometimes when you're fighting on a final point, it's better to leave the point hit your heal to get some more health, then dive back, giving your allies time to do the same. Dying just puts your team fighting an uphill battle.

Now, the real reason I teach players to mind their health bar in siege. Just as with sports. Humans train their bodies to react differently in various situations. When you practice a response over and over again, it becomes second nature. Building muscle memory or reflex is a process that takes lots of repetition, and what you tend to do in practice is what your body will default to when pressed in a stressful situation.

The goal is to build good habits for Territory Wars, where there is no respawn, no second chance, and your team is one mass casualty event away from defeat. Teaching players to be survivors keeps our front line driving forward without senseless death.

Every Death with Intent

There comes a point where your team is being hammered by war rockets, divine crows, and siege balistas. Where your front line falters, and you are out of units. Your team has muster and fresh units are ready to come into battle.

This is where you tell your shot caller you can rotate out and then proceed to make your death count. Find the biggest siege weapon you can. If you can press F to operate it, then jump off, and when they come to kill you, they will break their own siege. If you can't press F do what you can to break the siege.

If you can't get to the siege, aim for a specialty unit like Lionroar Crew, Falconetti Gunners, Siphonarioi, Zykalian Milita, Schutzdieners, or Alchemists Always make your life mean something. Never leave the battlefield without taking something with you.
